Code of Conduct

Introduction

At Belmont Scouts, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all members. Our Code of Conduct outlines the behavior expected from Scouts, leaders, and parents to ensure that everyone can enjoy and benefit from the Scouting experience.

General Principles

  • Respect: Treat others with kindness and consideration at all times.
  • Integrity: Act honestly and take responsibility for your actions.
  • Safety: Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to protect yourself and others.
  • Inclusivity: Embrace diversity and ensure that everyone feels welcome and valued.
  • Leadership: Lead by example, demonstrating the values of Scouting in all your actions.

Expected Behavior for Scouts

As a Scout, you are expected to:

  • Follow the Scout Promise and Law in all your activities.
  • Show respect for your fellow Scouts, leaders, and the community.
  • Participate fully in all activities and do your best to contribute positively.
  • Take care of your own and others' property, including Scout Group equipment.
  • Listen to and follow the instructions of your leaders and respect their authority.
  • Report any unsafe behavior or situations to a leader immediately.

Expected Behavior for Leaders

As a leader, you are expected to:

  • Provide a positive role model for Scouts, demonstrating the values of Scouting.
  • Create a safe and inclusive environment for all Scouts.
  • Treat all Scouts fairly and with respect, regardless of their background or abilities.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, educational, and fun activities that promote personal growth.
  • Communicate openly with parents, keeping them informed about their child's progress and any concerns.
  • Follow all policies and procedures set by Scouts Australia and Belmont Scouts.

Expected Behavior for Parents

As a parent, you are expected to:

  • Support your child's involvement in Scouting by encouraging their participation and attendance.
  • Treat all members of the Scout Group with respect and consideration.
  • Communicate with leaders about your child's needs, including any medical or dietary requirements.
  • Participate in at least two Parent Patrol activities per year, as outlined in our Parent Involvement page.
  • Follow the group's policies and procedures, and ensure your child does the same.
  • Address any concerns or issues with leaders in a respectful and constructive manner.

Consequences of Misconduct

Failure to adhere to this Code of Conduct may result in consequences, which can include:

  • Verbal warnings or reminders.
  • Temporary suspension from activities or meetings.
  • Permanent removal from the Scout Group in cases of serious or repeated misconduct.

Our aim is always to resolve issues in a constructive manner, helping individuals to learn and grow from their experiences.

Reporting and Resolving Issues

If you observe any behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, or if you have any concerns about the safety or well-being of a Scout, please report it immediately to a leader. All reports will be taken seriously and handled confidentially.

Acknowledgment

By participating in Belmont Scouts, all members, Scouts, leaders, and parents agree to uphold this Code of Conduct. Together, we can ensure a positive and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
